Russian President Vladimir Putin said on his live Call-In Show that the situation was horrifying for Christians in the Middle East. He reminded that the region was the origin of Christianity and expressed regret that they were unprotected after living there for centuries, TASS reports.
Putin admitted that he did not want to interfere in the polemics of the Pope and Turkey. The Russian president said that the Pope was so respected all around the world that he would find a way to approach any person regardless of religious background. Putin added that Turkey will find a flexible solution to the problem.
