White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that Russia plays an important role in world affairs, but its action against Ukraine does not correspond to what is expected of a world power.
According to him, the US side has acknowledged on a number of occasions that Russia played an important role in the P5+1 in our negotiations with Iran.
Earnest noted that the US does not deny that Russia's actions were useful in some areas, that Moscow was helpful in the removal and destruction of Syria's chemical weapons. Nevertheless, he said, "what's also true is that there are expectations for influential world powers to respect the borders of sovereign countries."
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that Russia "violated Ukraine's sovereignty," TASS cited the spokesman.
