NATO to reduce size of command structures

Defense ministers of 28 NATO member-states approved the proposition of NATO Secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen to reduce the size of NATO’s command structures, RIA Novosti reports, citing the press-service of NATO.

Rasmussen proposed in Brussels to reduce the size of 11 NATO command structures from 13,000 employees to 9,000. The defense ministers also agreed to reduce the number of NATO’s specialized agencies from 14 to 3, one of the agencies being the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA).

Rasmussen proposed the establishment of a more efficient infrastructure.
A final decision will be made in Lisbon on November 19-20.

The finances saved from optimization are expected to be used for NATO AA-defense and defense systems against cyber-attacks.
