Russian minister portends self-sufficiency in meat production

Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolai Fedorov said that Russia will stop importing meat at the end of 2015. The doctrine, in his words, requires production of 85% of meat consumed. Fedorov noted that a level of 83% had been reached in 2014 and will exceed 85% in 2016, Gazeta.ru reports.

The minister said that producers of poultry, pork and ham were asking the Agricultural Surveillance Service to open markets of other countries to sell products abroad at a higher price. He added that the country was self-sufficient in bread, potatoes, sugar and vegetable oil. The volume of fish production will soon reach the self-sufficiency level.
