Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolai Fedorov said that Russia will stop importing meat at the end of 2015. The doctrine, in his words, requires production of 85% of meat consumed. Fedorov noted that a level of 83% had been reached in 2014 and will exceed 85% in 2016, Gazeta.ru reports.
The minister said that producers of poultry, pork and ham were asking the Agricultural Surveillance Service to open markets of other countries to sell products abroad at a higher price. He added that the country was self-sufficient in bread, potatoes, sugar and vegetable oil. The volume of fish production will soon reach the self-sufficiency level.
