The Council of Europe has appointed Slovak diplomat Peter Burian as the EU special representative for Central Asia. He got tenure on April 15, Trend reports.
Peter Burian has been the state secretary of the Slovak Foreign Ministry, he had been the ambassador to the US and the representative of Slovakia to the UN Security Council. His mandate will not expire until April 30, 2016.
Burian replaced Janos Herman, who had been in office since April 2014.
The EU special representative for Central Asia focuses on political coordination of the EU in the region, monitoring the EU strategy and supporting regional security.
