Azerbaijani president to attend Victory Parade in Moscow

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will take part in the 70th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow, his Spokesman Azer Hasymov said today. Aliyev received the invitation for the May 9 celebrations from Russian President Vladimir Putin, APA reports.

Politologist Sergey Markov said that the visit will confirm the fraternal relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, popularize Aliyev in Azerbaijan, a country that played a very important role in fighting Nazism.

Professor Fikret Sadykhov reminded that Azerbaijan had always respected the memory of fighters against fascism and contributed to the final crushing of Nazi Germany. The expert reminded that of the 700,000 Azerbaijani soldiers sent to the battlefields, only a little over 300,000 returned. Ilham Aliyev's visit to Moscow, according to Sadykhov, should be considered within the framework of the strategic partnership of Russia and Azerbaijan.
