Georgian parliament adopts new Constitution

The Parliament of Georgia finally adopted the new Constitution tonight. 112 deputies voted for the new edition of the Constitution and 5 against, Trend reports.

In total, 44 changes have been made to the current Constitution. They almost completely change the structure of the state and the system of the governmental body. In the future the parliament will propose and approve the candidates for the posts of the ministers and

The new Constitution also dictates the separation of powers between different branches of government and ensures the independence of the court.

A statement of the Venice Commission published on Friday says that "the Venice Comission welcomes the constitutional reform in Georgia, according to which a number of presidential powers goes to the government." Saakashvili thanked the deputies for having waited for the final opinion of the VC before the final avoting for the Constitution.
