Istanbul has opened the Peace Summit today, dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Canakkale, APA reports.The summit will be moderated by Altay Cengizer, the director general for policy planning at the Turkish Foreign Ministry. Professors Christopher Clark of the University of Cambridge, Margaret MacMillan and Hew Strachan of the University of Oxford, Sukru Hanioglu and Assistant Professor Michael Reynolds of the Princeton University have noted the importance of contemporary studies of WWI events on the territory of the Ottoman Empire in the global context.The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland, described the collective responsibility of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council for prevention of high-scale wars. He urged the members of the UNSC to be more decisive in Syria and Ukraine.Corresponding members of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Nizami Jafarov and Yagub Mamedov, represented Azerbaijan at the first session of the summit. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will make a speech at the evening session.
