Flood in Kuban claims lives

Several communities in the Tuapse District of the Krasnodar region were flooded on Saturday night by heavy rains. As a result, nine people were killed, RIA Novosti reports, referring to a spokesman for the local administration of the EMERCOM.

"The victims are still to be identified," the spokesman said.

The level of the mountain rivers Pshenah and Tuapsinka have been rising as a result of the heavy rains. According to the regional EMERCOM, all in all "7 villages and 17 settlements were flooded." The area of flooding covers more than 270 houses with a population of more than 1,400 people. 300 people have been evacuated from the zone of flooding by rescuers. The remaining population refused to be evacuated, according to EMERCOM.
