Iranian ships are moving away from the coasts of Yemen, Pentagon officials said.
The US military called the move a "promising sign" and said "we will continue to monitor their course." The US Department of Defense believes that the Iranian cargo ships intend to deliver arms to Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Meanwhile, according to Fars news agency, the Navy's 34th fleet, including the Alborz destroyer and the Bushehr helicopter-carrier warship, arrived in the Gulf of Aden, succeeding the 33rd fleet, located on a sea voyage for 77 days.
"This presence of the Iranian flotilla of warships continues in free waters, including the Gulf of Aden, to fight against piracy," Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.
It is expected that the mission of the 34th fleet in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea will last around three months, TASS reports.
