Yesterday the Georgian National Bank announced that the national currency, the lari, was 2.2844 GEL to the US dollar, which is 1.1% more than on April 24 and 30.2% higher than the rate of half a year ago.
Overall, the lari fell to its lowest level this century: the last time it was equal to this sum was on February 16, 1999, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports
The head of the Georgian Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian Issues, Gigla Agulashvili, told Imedi 2 in an interview that the authorities had not been able to cope with the negative factors, and the depreciation of the GEL was at an extremely fast rate.
