The international human rights organization Freedom House has published its annual report on media freedom in 199 countries.
Among the countries of the South Caucasus, activists recognized that only Georgia has a partly free press, which occupied 93th position with 48 points (the best indicator is 0 points). Armenia occupies 135th place with 61 points, Turkey – 142th place, Azerbaijan – 188th, Iran – 190th, Russia – 180th, Epress.am reports.
Members of the Eurasian Economic Union, Kazakhstan and Belarus are also not free, ranking in 185th and 194th places, respectively. The report notes that only one in seven people live in a country with a free press.
The first five places in the table are occupied by Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Finland and the Netherlands.
