Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has appeared in public for the first time since the beginning of the year, visiting the suburbs of Damascus, where he met with the children and wives of fallen soldiers, Syrian national agency SANA reports.
"I want to be with you because I feel extremely happy when I am around the sons and daughters of martyrs," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
Last time the President of the Arab Republic appeared in public was on the eve of the new year. Then he met with the military on the front lines in the suburbs of Damascus.
