Negotiations between Turkey and EU postponed for political reasons

State Minister of Turkey and the country's chief negotiator with the EU, Egemen Bagis, has made several statements about the process of Turkey's accession to the EU. Bagis indicated that the negotiations have been postponed for political reasons, TRT Russian reports. The minister noted that Turkey, however, will continue its activities as part of discussions on specific issues.

Speaking at the Center for European Studies in Ankara University, Bagis said that in the process of accession to the EU, Turkey needs research studies, correct information and experts most of all. Bagis also addressed criticism at the Greek Cypriot government, stating that the negotiations with Turkey on new issues are being postponed for political reasons. The minister said that this situation does not prevent Turkey from doing what is required in the process of its accession to the Union.
