The US believes that Russian cooperation with NATO will help to strengthen security in Europe and worldwide, RIA Novosti reports.
"Relations between Russia and NATO have changed a lot over the past 20 years since the Cold War. We want to bring our relationship to a qualitatively new level and enhance cooperation, especially on matters of mutual interest: the fight against drug trafficking, terrorism and countering piracy. I would also like to assure you that we are interested in strengthening overall security and are willing to cooperate in this direction: to conduct joint military training, work together to create a missile defense system, deepen military cooperation and improve the regime of transparency," the US Deputy Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Philip Gordon, noted in his speech on Monday at Washington's Johns Hopkins University.
Gordon also stressed that the United States, as a member of NATO, still does not believe that Europe needs a new security agreement. Earlier, Russia had initiated the adoption of a new document.
