The Soviet Union and China were most seriously affected by the Second World War since they suffered the greatest number of casualties, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"As a result of the Second World War, the Soviet Union and China became the most-affected states since we had the largest number of citizens who died, both of the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China," the Russian leader said at a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
The Russian side, according to Putin, is pleased to have an opportunity to discuss current issues on the sidelines of 70th anniversary of the Victory commemorations."I should note a very high level and a confidential nature of our relations," Putin told Xi.
