Under the amendments, the number of permanent members of the Supreme Council of Judges and prosecutors will be increased up to 22 , and of the Constitutional Court up to 17, reports the TRT TV channel.
The amendments provide for filing individual complaints to the Constitutional Court of Turkey. Lawsuits against the Speaker, Chief of General Staff and commanders of the Air Force may be considered by the Supreme Court.
Amendments concerning the Supreme Military Court are aimed at strengthening its independence and impartiality and also provide for the abolition of the temporary 15th article, preventing trials against those responsible for the coup of September 12, 1980.
The set of amendments presupposes the application of positive discrimination for the benefit of women, children, the elderly, the disabled, and widows and children of servicemen and veterans. It also provides for judicial control of decisions by the Supreme Military Council. The set acknowledges the right of public servants to conclude collective agreements.
The set of constitutional amendments is to be submitted to the General Assembly in the near future.
