Security measures to be strengthened in Dagestan in connection with terrorist attack in Grozny

The Dagestani Interior Ministry will strengthen security at government sites and social infrastructure facilities in connection with the attack on the parliament of the Chechen Republic in Grozny, a spokesman for the Dagestani Interior Ministry told RIA-Novosti.

According to the law-enforcement bodies of the republic, on Tuesday morning, as a car carrying deputies was entering the territory of the Chechen Parliament, a car with terrorists drove in behind them. One of them blew up an explosive device on his body, while the other two broke through to the parliament building, where gunfire took place. The BBC reports that two of the three terrorists blew themselves up. At the present moment all the militants have been killed.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office announced on its website that 17 people were victims of the attack, six of them policemen. Two police officers and a parliamentary official died. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said all lawmakers and employees who were in the building when the attack occurred are alive and well, Interfax reported.
