Egyptian president calls for stricter controls on transport of nuclear material

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has urged participants of a nuclear security summit in Washington to ensure the safety of nuclear materials to stop them falling into the hands of terrorists, RIA Novosti reports.

“We support the idea of the establishment of strict global control controls over the transport of nuclear materials and underline that this is necessary to stop them falling into the hands of terrorist groups,” the Egyptian leader said.

Mubarak’s message was passed on to U.S. President Barack Obama by the country’s foreign minister.

The leaders of 47 states are taking part in the Washington summit.
