An official welcoming ceremony for the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Truong Tan Sang, who is paying an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, was held in Baku today.
President Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva met President Truong Tan Sang and his spouse Mai Thi Hanh.
As Ilham Aliyev said in an interview to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), President Sang’s trip to Azerbaijan is highly significant for the development of ties in politics, economics and other sectors as well as for the design of specific plans to boost cooperation. According to him, Vietnam and Azerbaijan have great cooperation potential in the oil and gas sector, as well as sufficient cooperation potential in the trade, business and humanitarian spheres. "The next thing to do would be to study, define and develop new areas for cooperation between the two countries," Ilham Aliyev concluded.The President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, Rovnag Abdullayev, and the CEO of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Nguyen Quoc Khanh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the oil and gas industry. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on cooperation in the field of agriculture and rural development, an Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on cooperation and mutual assistance in the customs sphere, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Transport of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on cooperation in the field of transport, and an Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on air transport were also signed, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.
