Shimon Peres to visit Moscow to celebrate Day of salvation and liberation

The Day of Salvation and Liberation is a new religious holiday in Israel in honor of the victory over fascism. A nobel laureate, former President and Prime Minister of Israel, Shimon Peres, will celebrate it in Moscow.


The Day of Salvation and Liberation, which is celebrated on 26th Iyar (the second of the 12 months of the Jewish calendar), this year falls on May 15. For the first time the holiday will be celebrated by communities in Russia, the USA, France, Germany and Israel.


"Shimon Peres will arrive in Moscow on May 15 from Tel Aviv," the press-service of the Russian Jewish Congress said.


The celebration of the Day of Salvation and Liberation in Moscow will be attended by the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, Israel Meir Lau, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Berel Lazar, and Adolf Shayevich, the Chief Rabbi of Moscow, the head of the Conference of European Rabbis, Pinchas Goldschmidt, the head of the Russian Jewish Congress, Yuri Kanner, the academician Yevgeny Primakov and other famous public and religious leaders.
