Italy urges Morsi's death sentence to be repealed

The Italian Foreign Ministry has expressed its deep concern over the imposition of the death sentence on former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and expressed hope that it be revised.

"Italy has been defending the position of the complete abolition of the death penalty for a long time and supports a global moratorium on this form of punishment," TASS cites an Italian foreign ministry statement.

Vestnik Kavkaza reported that Mohammed Morsi was sentenced to death in relation to the case of a mass escape of leaders of Muslim Brotherhood from prison at the time of the revolution in January 2011.
