Fischer: Tbilisi not far from visa-free regime with EU

Tbilisi will be even closer to the successful completion of the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU at the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, President of Austria Heinz Fischer said at a joint press conference with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili yesterday in Tbilisi.

"I appreciate the discussion process as an approximation of Georgia to the visa liberalization process. After the revision of certain issues and checks, a specific period will be assigned, after which a visa-free regime will be imposed," Sputnik-Georgia cited him as saying.

Fischer noted that the relevant agreement has not been reached, but the Austrian authorities believe that Georgia's actions in this area after the conclusion of the Association Agreement with the EU were appropriate.
