Kremlin unfamiliar with proposals of chief of Kadyrov’s staff for legalizing polygamy

The Kremlin is unfamiliar with reported proposals by the chief of the Chechen leader’s staff, Magomed Daudov, for legalizing polygamy in his republic, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"I honestly haven’t seen his [Daudov] announcement in which he suggests legalizing polygamy," TASS cited him as saying.

"If you study it closely and then show it to me, I will answer your question [about the Kremlin’s attitude to Daudov’s statement]," Peskov added.

"It would be good if polygamy was legalized. Only on the condition that Sharia law is observed, though. If a man can afford to support one more wife, then why not? That’s widespread after all, then it would be good to regulate this somehow," Daudov said in an interview with Gazeta.ru
