Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigori Karasin called Azerbaijan a very important neighbour. He said that its economy was rapidly developing, the republic was pursuing independent international and regional policies. Karasin characterized relations between Azerbaijan and Russia as a strategic partnership. He reminded that Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and President Ilham Aliyev had recently visited Moscow. An Azerbaijani military unit took part in the military parade on Red Square.
Leonid Slutsky, the head of the State Duma Committee for the CIS, Eurasian Integration and Contacts with Compatriots, noted that Azerbaijan was a prospering state, a capital of culture, sports, intellect. He said that seeing the Baku Humanitarian Forum and the First European Games in Baku set for June 12 was unsurprising. Slutsky reminded that Polad Bulbulogly had headed the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture for 18 years and the Azerbaijani embassy in Russia for 9 years. The politician added that the Russian Foreign Ministry and the OSCE Minsk Group were engaged in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
Tatyana Moskalkova, Slutsky's deputy, congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Ambassador Polad Bulbulogly, She said that the committee had developed new forms of cooperation with Azerbaijan. In her words, the trade turnover between Russia and Azerbaijan was growing, humanitarian contacts were at a very high level, the Russian Center in Baku was running.
Vladislav Tretyak, a member of the Russian parliament, the president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, wished Azerbaijani people peace, well-being, love, good health.
