Russia responds to Western sanctions once again

According to Soren Liborius, spokesman of the EU's representative office in Russia, today they have confirmed receiving from the Russian Foreign Ministry the 'blacklist' of EU citizens who are forbidden from entering the Russian Federation.

‘‘On Thursday we received a list of 89 EU citizens. We received this list from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we were told that it is not for publication,’’ Interfax cites him as saying.

Liborius also added that the list was sent for the attention of the EU, and complained that the document does not contain the reasons for the prohibitions on entry to these individuals and does not refer to any legal procedures.

The words of the European diplomat were confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"I would not like to comment on the information that has appeared in some mass media about the figures who are forbidden from entering the Russian Federation. At the same time, we confirm that such lists were given to our European partners,’’ a senior representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Brussels expressed surprise at the 'banned list', indicating that its compilation appears unmotivated to the EU.
