Having obtained Ukrainian citizenship, ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has automatically lost his Georgian citizenship. MP of the parliamentary majority Zviad Kvachantiradze drew attention to this fact, adding that, by law, Saakashvili could restore his lost citizenship if he appeals to the incumbent president.
"This is a law that was adopted by Saakashvili himself. If he becomes governor and received Ukrainian citizenship, he must give up his Georgian citizenship. If the Georgian authorities decide to grant the former president dual citizenship, it would be an irresponsible decision," RIA Novosti quotes Kvachantiradze.
A representative of the United National Movement, Giorgi Vashadze, said that Saakashvili ‘’has not spoken to anyone about getting dual citizenship."
