Minsk plans to raise its status in SCO

Belarus hopes to raise its status in the SCO to an observer, the corresponding political decision may be taken in the near future, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said.

"We are interested in the Belarusian participation ensured at a higher level, so we hope that we will soon be able to ensure a political decision to upgrade the status of Belarus in the SCO to that of an observer and to complete all the necessary formalities. We are ready to become a western corridor for the SCO and to make our contribution to the development of this organization," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
