European Parliament warns Turkey against violating freedom of speech

The European Parliament has passed a resolution at a plenary session in Strasbourg, bashing the justice system and the situation in the mass media in Turkey, urging the country to respect freedom of speech, RIA Novosti reports.

European deputies said that limiting the freedom of the press in Turkey was incompatible with the basic rights of the EU and the spirit of the negotiating process on admission to the EU. The European Parliament criticized the Turkish government for limiting access to social networks and websites, threatening journalists and other pressure.

Members of the European Parliament will assist Turkey in concluding the Kurdish processes peacefully.
