The police of the Elbrus region of Kabardino-Balkaria have discovered a militant group hiding in a mine shaft, RIA Novosti reports, citing local police.
A Kalashnikov submachine gun, a pistol and ammo of various calibres were found 3.5km from the mine. A vehicle rigged with explosives was found 80m away from the second mine entrance.
On Wednesday police had a shoot-out with an illegal armed group in the Elbrus region at approximately 15.00 (Moscow time).
The militants hid in the mines after being chased by the police where they were surrounded by law-enforcers. According to police information, the militants were involved in various crimes, including attacks on police.
