The State Duma today voted 382 to 40 for a resolution to allow a criminal case to be brought against a deputy from the LDPR faction, Ashot Yeghiazaryan, RIA-Novosti reports.
Yeghiazaryan can be prosecuted under part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code (large-scale fraud committed by an organised group). This article stipulates imprisonment for up to ten years.
In late September the newspaper Kommersant wrote that the former deputy head of the Russian Federal Property Fund asked the Attorney-General, Michael Aganiev, to investigate the theft of 18 million dollars, which had been invested in projects of organisations associated with the name of Yeghiazaryan for the construction of the Europark shopping mall and reconstruction of the Hotel Moscow. Yeghiazaryan called the charges absurd.
