Up to 20 EU groups of observers, including the representatives of organizations, as well as EU member-countries will monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, Trend quotes Roland Kobia, the head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan, as saying.
"The elections will be observed by seven members of the European Parliament and observers from the EU member-countries," Kobia said.
The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies once in five years.
About 581 international election observers have been registered so far. The total number of observers exceeds 20,000 people.
EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby is not expected to participate in election monitoring. Several EU observers will arrive in Azerbaijan on the eve of elections and some of them are
already in Baku.
"We will publish preliminary reports during the pre-election period," Kobia said. About 692 candidates were registered to participate in the parliamentary elections.
