U.S. circulates plan for tougher sanctions against Iran – paper

The U.S. is circulating a draft of new and tougher sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, Interfax said, citing a report in The New York Times. The new sanctions would involve the barring of deals with Iran in certain fields, a much harder line from the current sanctions, which call for UN members to exercise vigilance and restraint over arms, transport and banking relations with the Islamic Republic.

The focus of the new sanctions would be on the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which controls a large number of Iranian businesses. The oil industry is not included, diplomats said.
