Georgian military base Vaziani had a meeting of the parliament
committee for defense and security, Georgia Online reports.
Deputies considered the initiatives of reserve, department of guards
and civil defense. Deputies, Defense Ministry and the Security Council
decided to work together on the new initiatives.
The plans are to form two new types of reserves, a reserve trained by
Georgian land forces and a reserve trained by the department achieved
by introducing changes to the Guards structure, increase of civil
defense functions. The Guards Department will have a primary function
of managing emergency situations and territorial-logistical issues.
The head of the parliament committee for defense and security, Givi
Targamadze, said that the new function of the Guards will be civil
defense. It will require legal procedures which will be worked out by
the Defense Ministry and the committee, he said.
