Azerbaijan announces preliminary report on pre-electoral situation

The International Information Center has announced its preliminary report on the pre-electoral situation in Azerbaijan. The report describes the processes of registering candidates, collection of signatures, and registering complications. The report also includes information about agitation and propaganda during the campaigning.


The reports informs that there were 734 candidates registered, and 49 of them withdrew. Thus, there will be 685 candidates. 641 (87.3%) of the candidates are men, 93 (12.7%) are women. 14 political parties will take part in the parliamentary elections.


There are 380 independent candidates. Most candidates belong to the Yeni Azerbaijan Party (111), the PNFA Musavat bloc (37) and the Garabakh bloc (32).


The International Information Center started work on October 12, 2010 to provide information for foreign journalists and media in Baku. The center helps gather information, as well as organize meetings with candidates.
