Iran to follow 1921-1940 agreements with Soviet Union regarding status of Caspian Sea

The Special Representative of the President of Iran on the Caspian
Sea, Mohammad Mehdi Akhundzadeh, announced today that in determining
the legal status of the Caspian Sea, Iran will rely on the agreements
between Iran and the Soviet Union signed from 1921 to 1940, APA
reports, citing the Mehr news agency.

He also said that Iran encourages everyone to act according to their
conscience in the discussions of the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
He stressed that until now Iran has been acting in a certain
framework, and will continue to adhere to the same position.

"It is impossible to resolve the legal status of the Caspian Sea
without the consent of Iran," he added.
