The Armenian Defense Ministry is doing its best to minimize problems
in the army, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Oganyan said on
television, News Armenia reports.
In 2010 Armenian army had several incidents, involving murders,
suicides and accidents leading to deaths.
The minister noted that the Armenian army has been achieving success
due to high morale and psychological levels. He said that the ministry
is carrying out a transparent defense policy, informs the society.
Oganyan said that the only problem is corruption risks. The problem
concerns both the conscripts and their parents. There is a hot line to
receive information.
The minister said that conscription is the main source of servicemen,
adding that in the last years the ministry did a lot of work to
provide qualitative progress in this sphere. Special attention was
paid to legality and justness of conscription. It was achieved due to
the coordinated work of the Defense Ministry with local conscription
offices, police and the Ministry of Healthcare.
He noted that the age of young people for health screening was reduced
from 16 to 14.
Oganyan said that there were also staff reshuffles at conscription
offices and progress in the work of medical commissions.
