Council of Europe rates Azerbaijani parliamentary polls

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan on November 7 took place in
a peaceful atmosphere, and all opposition parties took part in the
elections, the Council of Europe says, Trend reports.


50.14% of Azerbaijani population (2,480 205,citizens) took part in the
election process. There were 690 candidates.


The monitors noted that the Central Electoral Commission provided all
the necessary technical support. However they noted that there were
restrictions on the freedom of the media and a lack of fierce
political debates.


The Council of Europe pointed out that voters could request their
names to be checked in the registry of voters and request their names
to be added if they were missing. The Central Electoral Committee also
carried out an educational campaign for voters with the use of the
mass media.
