Kuban reveals new source of African swine flu

A new African swine flu source has been discovered at the 'Galan' farm
of Kuban's Kurganin Region, Yuga.ru reports.


An emergency situation regime was introduced in the Starominsk Region
of the Krasnodar Territory on October 26. All the 7,000 pigs on the
'Bolshevik' farm were killed.


The TV company NTK reported that the 'Galan' farm had said blood
samples showed the presence of the African swine flu.


A quarantine was imposed. Barriers were set up in the region.
Veterinaries and police staff will carry out 24-hour monitoring. They
started checking cars and trucks.


The head of Kurganin veterinary monitoring service Antonin Kuznetsov
said that they will have to kill at least 6,000 pigs on the farm.


3,000 more pigs will be taken from nearby enterprises. The authorities
will pay compensation, the head of Kurganin Region Vladimir Ivchenko
said.
