The negotiations on the process of Turkey's accession to the EU was
the focus of a speech by Turkish President, Abdullah Gul, at a
conference at Oxford University, TRT reports. “Some EU member states
are raising artificial political issues. Despite all these problems,
Turkey is determined to continue its path," Gul said.
"When the negotiation process is successfully completed, perhaps the
Turkish people will change their attitude to EU membership. However,
it is too early to talk about this," Abdullah Gul stressed.
Noting that Turkey is making efforts to peacefully resolve the
problems concerning the Iranian nuclear programme, Gul said that even
minor diplomatic steps are encouraging.
