Kazakhstan to improve ties with West and Islamic world

Astana will be working on improving dialogue with the West and the
Islamic world during its chairmanship of the Organization of the
Islamic Conference (OIC) in 2011, Kazakh President Nursultan
Nazarbayev said in an interview with Euronews, published in the
‘Kazakhstanskaya Pravda’ (Kazakh Truth) newspaper on Wednesday.


The president said that they have two significant goals: standing
against religious fundamentalism without demonizing Islam as a
religion and improvement of an honest dialogue between the West and
the Islamic world, RIA Novosti reports.


Nazarbayev said that Kazakhstan has great experience in the peaceful
and tolerant co-existence of ethe and religions.


The president reminded his audience that Kazakhstan chaired the
Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia
(CICA) in 2002-2010 and the OSCE in 2010.
