The new head of the Executive Committee of the Russian Congress of
Caucasian Peoples (RCCP) was elected on November 8, 2010. Aliy
Totorkulov, president of the fund for supporting the development of
Karachay-Cherkess youth ‘Elbrusoid’, will replace the current head of
the Executive Committee, Ahmed Tazimov, Vestnik Kavkaza reports,
citing the press-service of the RCCP.
Aliy Totorkulov thanked Ahmed Azimov for his effort and successful
work. He noted that he does not plan to make any radical changes in
the work of the committee.
Ahmed Azimov, who has been head of the RCCP since 2008, will continue
work in the congress as the chairman of the Moscow Department of the
High Council of the Congress.
Aliy Hasanovich Totorkulov was born in 1961 in the village of Noviy
Karachay in the Karachayev Region of Stavropol Territory (today’s
Karachay-Cherkessia). In 1983-1985 he served in the Soviet army in
Ulyanovsk. In 1990 he graduated from the Moscow University of Commerce
as an economist.
From 1990 to 2000 he headed the Multi Express company of the
Association of Business Cooperation with Foreign States ‘Scientific
Technical Progress’. In 2000 he became the head of the Beroid company.
In 2003 he became the president of the fund for supporting the
development of Karachay-Cherkess youth, ‘Elbrusoid’, in Karachayevsk.
He is a presidium member and head of the commission for youth affairs
of the Council of Nationalities of the Moscow government. He is an
honoured artistic figure. He has been awarded the Lermontov Committee
Medal and the Islam Krymkhamkhalov Medal. In November 2010 he became
the head of the Executive Committee of the RCCP. He is married with
four children.
