Rumors concerning the possibility for President Kurmanbek Bakiyev to take refuge in Turkey deposed in the course of the April coup in Kyrgyzstan are groundless, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the Turkish television company NTV and sources in the country’s Foreign Ministry.
The official statement concerning the matter has not been made by the Turkish Ministry yet. The possibility of Bakiyev’s departure to Turkey has been reported by sources in the Kyrgyz provisional government.
Meanwhile, the Turkish authorities establish contacts with the new Kyrgyz government.
On April 15 Deputy Prime Minister of the provisional government Almazbek Atambayev visited Ankara in order to discuss the Turkey’s rendering of financial assistance to Kyrgyzstan on the invitation of Turkish President Abdullah Gul.
After the meeting, the Turkish president’s Press service circulated a message specifying that "Turkey is ready to render any material and spiritual aid and support to the brotherly Kyrgyz people."
