Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has decided to boycott the Lisbon summit of NATO, although earlier he had been planning to participate in the meeting of heads of states with a UN mandate to ensure security measures in Afghanistan, "Gazeta.ru" says, citing the press secretary of the President of Armenia .
"Armenia has repeatedly stressed the unacceptability of the generalized wording in relation to conflict regulation, whereas in the draft resolution, the Lisbon conference of NATO maintained a general formulation about the settlement of the conflicts in the South Caucasus. The resolution refers to just one of the principles adopted by the OSCE, i.e. to territorial integrity, disregarding the right of self-determination, renunciation of military conflict and some others," the press secretary of the Armenian President explained to journalists the reasons for the boycott of the NATO summit.
According to the spokesman, voicing the opinion of the President of Armenia, this situation may create additional difficulties in the process of a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, considering the growing military expenditure and anti-Armenian statements of Azerbaijan.
