Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan has said he is in favor of a presidential system of rule, reports RIA Novosti
"We can hold a referendum on this issue after the parliamentary elections in 2011," he said in an interview with ATV.
He also said that the proposal might be included in his party’s election program.
Erdogan said a presidential system would be more effective than the current mixed system and would allow Turkey to achieve a “faster rate of development.”
The Turkish parliament is due to discuss today amendments to the Constitution. However they do not provide for changes in the current system of rule.
