Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Major-General Sergey
Zakharkin to supervise the Joint Group of Forces to carry out
counter-terrorist operations in the North Caucasus.
The president’s decision dismisses Zakharkin from his previous
position, the Kremlin's press-service reports.
Major-General Mikhail Kurasov was appointed the deputy head of forces
of the Central Regional Command of the Interior Ministry’s interior
troops for emergency situations, Lieutenant-General Sergey Shadrin was
appointed the first deputy head of the of the Central Regional Command
of the Russian Interior Ministry’s interior troops.
Colonel Alexey Belyakov, head of the communications and transport
department of forces and deputy head of the North Caucasus
headquarters of the Russian Interior Ministry’s interior troops, and
Colonel Constantine Isayev, head of the organization and mobilization
department of the same structure, were dismissed.
Medvedev also dismissed Colonel Vasily Fedoruk, head of the
reconnaissance service of the same structure.
