Russian president announces three-fold wage increase for servicemen in 2011

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, the head of the Russian Armed
Forces, announced that the base wages of Russian servicemen will be
increased three-fold from January 1, 2011. The announcement was made
at Medvedev’s meeting with commanders, ITAR-TASS reports.


He also said that they will develop a new pension system for retired
servicemen and their families.


The president said that annual financing of national defense will
remain at 2.8% of GDP in 2010-2020. He noted that in 2012 they will
start reforming the payment system for servicemen.


Before the meetin the president watched tactical training of the
armoured motorized battalion at Europe’s largest training field in the
Western Military District, called Gorokhovetsky.
