Armenia to hold international forum ‘European Prospects’

Yerevan will host a forum entitled ‘European Prospects’ today within
the framework of the EU program ‘Eastern Partnership’ and the
negotiation process around the agreement on an association of Armenia
with the EU, Armenia Today reports, citing the press service of the
International Center for Human Development (ICHD).

The ICHD is the organizer of the forum, supported by the delegation of
the European Commission in Armenia and the German Fund of Friedrich
Ebert.

It is the sixth forum for issues of European integration, aimed at
assisting in improving the role of civil society and social
organizations in the development of policy and decision-making, the
message says.

The Secretary of the National Security Council of Armenia, Artur
Bagdasaryan, and the head of European Commission in Armenia, Raul de
Luzenberger, will make the opening speeches. The special
representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for
Nagorno-Karabakh, Goran Lenmarker, will make a report. Armenian Prime
Minister Tigran Sarkisyan will conclude the meeting.

Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, the Czech Republic, Denmark,
Turkey, Sweden, European and international structures, such as the EU,
the OSCE, the Council of Europe and NATO, will participate in the
meeting.

An Eastern Partnership summit was held in Prague in May 2009. The
program is aimed at political and economic rapprochement of the EU
with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldavia, Ukraine and Belarus, but
does not involve issues of membership in the EU. The program involves
issuing 600 million euros to the countries by 2013. The funds will be
provided for strengthening state institutions, border control and
aiding small businesses.
