Presidents of Turkey and Switzerland discuss South Caucasus conflicts

Turkish President Abdullah Gul is on a visit to Switzerland. He met
with the Swiss President Doris Leuthard last night. They had a
closed-door meeting and inter-delegation talks, followed by a meeting
with journalists, TRT reports.

The main topic of the two presidents was the prohibition of minaret
construction in Switzerland. Gul urged Switzerland to take more
confident steps. Leuthard emphasized that Switzerland is a country
with many languages and cultures. She said that the prohibition is due
to reasons of urban planning, not limitation of religion.

The Turkish president warned that freezing Caucasian problems may lead
to sudden high-scale conflicts.

Gul said that Turkey remains committed to realization of the protocols
on normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations.

The Swiss president said that Turkey and Armenia should not retreat
from their efforts for dialogue and cooperation.
