The main points of the resulting document of the OSCE summit have been
agreed on by the permanent OSCE council in Astana, Kazakh Minister of
Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev, OSCE chairman, said, RIA Novosti
reports.
The OSCE chairman talked about the main components of the Astana
declaration. Firstly, he spoke about the importance of stimulating
efforts to strengthen control over arms and measures of trust in the
region, especially via modernization of the Vienne document of 1999.
Secondly, the minister saw sees need in preventing trans-national
challenges and threats.
The OSCE may activate assistance to Afghanistan, he emphasized.
Thirdly, Saudabayev went on, the OSCE needs to strengthen its
potential in preventing and resolving conflicts, coping with crisis
situations and post-conflict rehabilitation.
The minister pointed out the importance of special attention to
inter-ethnic and inter-religious tolerance.
Saudabayev noted that the final declaration needs to establish the
superiority of law, respect for human rights and freedom.
He believes that economic freedom, social justice and responsibility
in ecology should also be part of common security.
The minister emphasized that they need to determine the role of OSCE
in the system of international and regional security structures,
improve the level of coordination and cooperation with international
organizations basing on the platform of cooperative security of 1999.
The operative and institutional potential of the OSCE and its
activities need to be backed by legal basis, he also said.
